      Hello,

I'm trying to learn Swedish from German primarily, so I'd like my lookup language (double-clicking a word) to also be in German, but it's in English.

Where does the lookup dictionary call its dictionary from? Even when "deleting" all other dictionaries but DE-SV, I'm getting the same Swedish-English translations.

Vielen Dank / Tack så mycket..

Unfortunately, this version doesn’t support changing the main definition language, which is why everything is in English. The Swedish lookup uses a built-in Wiktionary source. Changing the dictionary list only affects the popup window, which is another way to look up words in Dictionariez, and you can install as many dictionaries as you want.

That said, I already have a solution and have implemented most of it 🚀. Stay tuned! In the next version, you’ll be able to get definitions in German 🇩🇪😊.

          Good news and bad news.
The bad news is that the quick dictionary lookup when you double click on any word doesn't really support German explanation as it's using Wiktionary as the main source. I found that most of the Swedish words on Wiktionary don't have a German translation, such as the simple word tåg, it has over 30 languages but not German. Hence you won't get a German definition by the quick dictionary lookup.

The good news is now from V7.0.0 you have AI lookup. You can set German as the response language as you want, and much more :D.

I think the best part is that you can now compare the lookup results in AI and dictionaries. So what do you think? Which is better? And how do you wish to improve to better fit your situation?

Tack så mycket för att du försökte hitta en lösning. :- )

Definitely, the AI popup is helpful because it also shows synonyms, and that helps to map out more mental connections. The etymology is also very useful.

I like your approach very much. But by constantly querying a LLM, or TTS, I'm also worried about the energy usage/environmental impact. I don't know if I'm the only one who cares about those things in 2026, but I do. Of course, it's damn efficient to use these features. And in some cases, 1 click to highlight a word can save 20 minutes of frustration and naturally enable faster learning. But doing that 100 times adds up, and if given free reign, I can absolutely do that. So I do want to voice that concern, even though I'm a dunce when it comes to AI and web development and whatnot.

Glad to hear that you like it. Yeah, I like it particularly explaining the contextual meaning and the origin of the word. Indeed it helps me map out the mental connections.

I concur with you about this concern, currently I think we are in a huge bubble that AI is so hyped and everything else impacted, such as the environment, the job losses etc are ignored by Capital. Sooner or later these issues will be addressed, by the giant companies, by the governments all over the world. And the society need people like you and me to voice up these issues, not until it's too late...
